This is a wonderful game to delve into the world of shapes. It is full of colourful graphics and interesting sounds that will delight children.
The aim of this game is to identify and match the geometric shapes. A vehicle moves onto the screen and a number of shape outlines are revealed. Load the shapes from the shape box into the correct places on the vehicle. Click and drag the shapes, moving them to the matching outline.
If a shape is placed incorrectly it will quietly disappear when placed.
When all the shapes have been placed, the vehicle will leave for its destination and be replaced by a new one.
Sound can be turned on and off by clicking on the music symbol in the upper right corner.
To exit, click on the small hand in the upper right corner of the screen.
Outcome 4: Children are involved and confident learners
Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators
Shape recognition: identifying and matching geometric shapes
Naming geometric shapes
Realising that different shapes have different attributes
Visual discrimination
Same/different concepts
Mouse control: click and drag
This activity is a wonderful introduction to the various strategies required to visually problem solve, especially when solving jigsaw puzzles and playing matching games. Children will learn to recognize various shapes and match them with the corresponding outlines. Visual memory is strengthened and spatial awareness fine-tuned.
Ask the children to say the name of each shape as they load it. Some shape names are difficult to master. Verbal repetition of shape names helps with learning.
Use phrases such as "What shape is that?" and "Where does that shape belong?" Compare the shapes to the outline. "Which outline looks exactly the same as the shape you have picked up?"
Talk about differing attributes of shapes e.g. squares have four sides the same length and four corners.
Ask your child to name other things around them that are of the same shape. eg. A circle is the same shape as a clock, coin, orange, plate.
