Odd One Out |
|
This is a fun and enjoyable activity for children, testing their ability to identify and group various objects together.
On opening the activity, four objects will appear on the screen. Three of these will have a similar function or characteristics and one will not belong in that group. The aim for children is to click on the object that does not belong with the others.
When the odd object is correctly chosen as the one that doesn't belong, a new group will appear.
The question mark button gives a verbal clue when it is clicked. Children can click on it at any time for a helpful hint as to the main group theme.
To exit, click on the small hand in the lower right corner of the screen.
Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world
Outcome 4: Children are involved and confident learners
Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

At first glance this activity appears quite simple - just click on the one that doesn't belong. It is, however, a bit more challenging than that. Some groupings are easier to sort than others. For example, flowers are easily identifiable and noticeably different from cars. Things made of wood, however, look different from one another. There may be four food items on the screen, but only three of them are vegetables. Children's ability to group some objects together may require a little lateral thinking.
The hint button is always there when help is needed, but teachers should encourage children to think carefully about the objects before looking for a clue. Ask them to tell you about the objects. What are they? What do they do? Do they have something in common?
